Alocasia Scalprum Care & Maturity

August 16, 2022

A unique alocasia with its long arrow-shaped, dark green foliage that can almost resemble black in color. Another jewel alocasia you can count on remaining somewhat compact and low to its soil. This alocasia is exclusively found in the Philippines and is considered rare among collectors.

Watering: Check weekly, water if top 50% of soil is dry. This alocasia does not tolerate drying out, so monitor moisture levels every 5-7 days.
Light Requirements: Bright indirect sunlight. Tolerant of medium light, but truly thrives in brighter settings.
Humidity Needs: Moderate to high, 70% and above is ideal.
Soil Preference:
A well-draining potting mix is ideal. 20% perlite and standard potting mix is recommended.
Fertilizing:
Use a balanced fertilizer 1-2x a month in spring and summer. Cease feeding in winter months.
Repotting:
Only as your plant becomes completely rootbound. Does enjoy being somewhat snug it its pot.
Pet Safe: No
Common Issues:
Drooping leaves due to underwatering. Also keep an eye out for common plant pests that love the humidity levels of alocasias.
